Manchester United continue their transfer pursuits during the international break ahead of a busy summer window.
While many Premier League clubs use the international break for rest, Manchester United remains active with updates from Old Trafford during this productive period.
Michael Carrick strengthens his case for the permanent manager role after just one defeat in 10 matches, including five wins at Old Trafford.
His work this season continues, with preparations underway for another potentially transformative transfer window. Last summer’s signings contributed significantly to the club’s turnaround, and Carrick hopes to oversee this year’s dealings.
The positive atmosphere at United contrasts sharply with the mood after Ruben Amorim’s January departure. As the club prepares for their return against Leeds in two weeks, key developments emerge in transfers and tactics.
Man Utd Transfer Target Baleba Price Slashed
United Receive Update on Baleba Fee
Manchester United gains a boost in their chase for Carlos Baleba after Brighton revises their high valuation from last summer.
United withdrew from a late inquiry last year upon learning Brighton’s demand exceeded £100 million for the midfielder.
In the current market and given Baleba’s recent season, some clubs might have met that price. However, Brighton now shows more openness to a deal following the 22-year-old’s lesser impact this campaign.
Brighton would accept a lower fee after identifying replacements. United needs midfield reinforcements, with Casemiro confirmed to leave and speculation around captain Bruno Fernandes persisting.
The exact adjustment to Baleba’s valuation—who joined from Lille for an initial £23.2 million in 2023—remains unclear. Brighton likely expects at least triple that amount if selling this summer, should United’s interest hold.
Dalot Says Carrick and Amorim ‘Not That Different’
Diogo Dalot views interim manager Michael Carrick’s approach as not vastly different from Ruben Amorim’s, though a key tactical tweak has reignited United’s attack.
United earned 23 points from 30 possible in the league since Carrick took over in January, compared to 14 from the prior 10 under Amorim, some of which seemed winnable.
Dalot, a constant under both, provided insights into the similarities. Speaking to DAZN Portugal, he said: “If you analyse it closely, things are not that different from what we were doing with Ruben. If you look at the pieces of the game individually, you don’t see that many differences. The biggest difference is the profile of the player. Now we play with one less defender and one more attacking player.”
“As I say many times, at the end of the day what really matters is the result. When confidence is high, with the quality of players we have, sometimes you don’t even need to say much and players go on the pitch and perform well.”
